Absolute Location S.S

In S.S we have learned about Absolute Location.
Absolute Location is used to locate places precisely.
We need Absolute Location when natural resources are found, the Absolute Location must be determined.  The absolute location makes the resources the property of one country and not another.

EX.  If oil is found along the border of two countries with a clearly defined boundary.  They must determine who the oil belongs too.
We have also learned about regions.  A region is any area with a set of defined characteristics.  Regions are everywhere, such as your bedroom, neighborhood,house,ect...
Regions are used in the study geography.
We organize the world into spaces and places called regions.

CRICKETTTTTT >:D

Good morning/afternoon everyone. Today I will be talking about gym. In gym we are learning about cricket, and instead of Mrs. Langstaff, we have Mr.----- for gym until the last class before Christmas break. In cricket, we learned that it isn't a rip off of baseball, because it has many different things. We learnt how do throw the ball with a straight elbow, and how to hold the bat. There are 4 different positions that we know.(probably all of them) There is the bowling, fielder, batter, and wicket keeper. The bowler is the person who throws the ball at the wicket. The fielder is the person who catches the ball to give to the wicket keeper. The wicket keeper is the person who stands behind the wicket, and has to touch the wicket with a ball to get the batter running out. And the batter is the person who hits the ball with the bat, and runs to next base if  they can. Thank you for listening(if you were) and have a great day.

heat and temperature by shania

Heat and Tempurature

There are four different types of thermometers, there is a thermocouple which is used to measure extreme temperatures, a recording thermometer which is used to measure temperature over a period of time, a infrared thermometer which is used to measure things from farther away, and a bimetallic strip wich is used to control the heat.

We are also learning about the 3 states of matte and how they change for example from a liquid to a gas is evaporation and  to do that you need to increase the energy. there is also gas to a liquid, solid to a liquid , gas to a solid, solid to a gas, and liquid to solid.

Currently In French...
We are learning  about Christmas vocabulary. We are doing fun Christmas activities to help us learn the vocabulary. We are playing a French version of bingo where we have to write a friend's name and a number from 1-25  in the box and Mme would pick names and whatever name she called you would have to mark it if you have it. If you got bingo, you would have to say "C'est Noel" or else it doesn't count. You either had to read the person's name then the object or the number (in French) then the object. If you won, then you got a mini candy cane.

Besides bingo, we received activity booklets to also help us learn the vocabulary. Some of the activities were just for plain practice and others are for competition (to win a mini candy cane.) Some of the activities involved fill in the blanks, unscrambling, word searches etc.
That is pretty much it so far...
Thank you for listening!

What we are learning in Social Studies

In social studies, we just finished learning about human development. The United Kingdom is the country that makes a "report card" for each country the wants one. The name of this report card is HDI, this stands for "Human Development Index." The HDI is composed of three main categories, the first category is health, health means how many doctors your country has, or the life expectancy for that country. The second category is wealth, this is the minimum wage of the country, or how much you earn in a year. The third category is education, this means how long you should expect to go in school, or the adult literacy rate.

In this unit, we also learned about moving from a rural area to an urban area. There are 5 main ways for this to happen, natural disasters, small farms, violent conflicts, job opportunities, & high fertility rates. We also learned about push factors- are things that encourage you to leave a place, so like bad living conditions, and pull factors- things that pull you to a place, so for example, a better quality of life. We also learned about time zones, we learned that each time zone is 15° wide. After the unit test, we started learning about human development. Personally, I don't know about u guys, but I really like learning about this stuff. We had a great start for Gr.7 and I'm looking forward to the rest of Gr. 7 with you all.

E.L.A- The Breadwinner

In E.L.A we are doing Novel Study with our student teacher, Miss Szymesko. The novel we are working on right now is The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis. The story takes place in Afghanistan, and it's about an 11 year old girl who has to disguise herself as a boy after her dad is arrested for seeking education in England. She now replaces her dad as the breadwinner (the person who earns the income for the family), endures a lot of hardships, and meets new and old friends throughout the story.
In the time we have had working on the book, we've had 2 quizzes and have had to answer reading comprehension questions for each chapter.

St. Maurice Band Gearing Up to Give A Concert!

Hi Everybody!

The subject I'm reporting on is band.  Things have been going great in band and Mrs. Kurchenko is working with us and really helping us learn to play our notes.  I am really enjoying learning to play my trumpet and as it turns out, it really has not been as difficult as I thought it might be!  There are a few updates and achievements in band that I am happy to report in this posting.  They are:

(1)  we have finished learning our 100th song!

(2)  on December 10th, we will be performing a concert for the St. Maurice grade 4, 5, and 6   classes!

This will be the first concert I've ever performed in playing a musical instrument!  I am really looking forward to it and being able to hear how we all sound when we are playing the songs together!

I'll let you know how things go!  Until then..........

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and all the very best in the New Year!

Michael

Lately In ICT....

we have been talking about Word. Over the week's we have been learning on how to create sample data, font, spacing and indenting lessons. Not only that, we have also in our spare time have been doing All The Right Type. This is where we learn how to type. Now we all know how to type but this teaches us on how to type with the proper fingers.

During class we have also been being marked by Ms. Teetaert on Class Dojo. Class Dojo is a website with Monsters! That's right Monsters and we are all one of them. We can build up points with positive things (e.g. On task) or you can take them down to even the negatives with things like (e.g. No homework). Class Dojo also takes attendance.
Thank you for listening to my presentation.

Social justice

In social justice we are getting ready for the gym riot. the gym riot is on January

health~ peer pressure

In health we are learning about Peer pressure. Peer pressure is not pressure from people you know, it is pressure from people your age that you know, or even someone your age that you haven't met yet. peer pressure can be in a positive way like, meeting new friends, or joining a team, or club. Some types of peer pressure can also be negative, like bulling or being forced to do something.

In health we also learned some strategies to help you deal with negative peer pressure like....

*assert yourself with physical confidence
*say no firmly
*say goodbye and leave
*give a reasonable excuse
*repeat your decision
*tell reasons
     and
*tell an adult
These are all good ways to deal with negative peer pressure.
